Hip-hop’s least favourite troll Tekashi 6ix9ineis back with his latest song, “GOOBA.” “GOOBA” is produced by Payday & Jahnei Clark and is Tekashi’s first single release in almost two years. In late December 2019, Tekashi was sentenced to 24 months after pleading guilty in February of that year, to a slew of charges involving Brooklyn gang the 9 Trey Gangsta Bloodz. 6ix9ine is currently serving out the rest of his24 month sentence at home due to coronavirus concerns. On May 8, 2020, 6ix9ine took to Instagram live for his first public appearance in months to air out his grievances to millions of people. 6IX9INE: You live your whole life trying to be a real nigga. Trying to be a stand-up, loyal guy. To try to shit on a kid like me to be like you, ‘fuck that, he’s a rat he’s a rat.
To then a rat like me to come home and still do more numbers than you? I would be mad too. JACQUES: On the song, the always abrasive 6ix9ine hits a similar yelling pocket while referencing the ‘Diddy Bop,’ the dance popularized in the mid-90s by P. Diddy. He also shouted out that dance on his song, “KEKE.” Next, he includes a callback to his now-viral BreakfastClub interview and 2018 track with Bobby Shmurda, “STOOPID.” 6IX9INE: There’s a difference between being a gangster and being stupid. I let my nuts hang, but am I gon’ go against a hundred niggas that wanna get me or be the smarter person and be like, stupid, I’m not gon’ let you get the chance. JACQUES: The Brooklyn rapper stays current with a mention of the 2020 global pandemic COVID-19 while nodding to his signature style of rapping just before jumping back into yelling on the chorus. 6ix9ine has been ostracized by many in hip-hop ever since he testified against his former gang compatriots. Among those calling him out is Philly rapper Meek Mill, who recently urged 6ix9ine to apologize for his actions, tweeting quote: I hope that rat going live to apologize to the people he told on or the victim….. Y’all forgot that fast a “rat” killednipsey he wasn’t supposed to be on the streets! That’s the only thing I ma say because he’s dead… left his baby mom and childlike a coward as targets! 6ix9ine was quick to respond saying the quote. Imagine having a newborn baby come into the world and be pressed about a Mexican with rainbow hair.
Tekashi appears to address this on the second verse of “GOOBA.” 6IX9INE: I’m the biggest artist in the fucking world. The numbers? Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. The music video, helmed by At.las productions’director David Wept, appears to have been filmed in the confines of 6ix’s home after a judge allowed that as a part of his release. “GOOBA,” is already a huge track. It did a million views on YouTube within an hour of its release and quickly shot up to the top of the Genius top songs chart.
